UAB: focus on the interaction between research and business activities

In Networks and Organizations, Science and Society

The UAB Research Park is a private not-for-profit foundation, established in 2007 as a basic tool for three leading research bodies: the UAB, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Institute for Agricultural and Food Research ad Technology (IRTA) to promote and improve the transfer of knowledge and technology between the University and business.

Its official constitution has made it possible to give structure to a situation which already existed, given that its origins go back to the 1980s when the first research centres began to be established on the UAB campus at Bellaterra, centres of both the University and other collaborating organisations.

In addition to the UAB departments and research groups, the Park also includes numerous research centres and institutes located on the Bellaterra campus and the Torre Marimon farm (Caldes de Montbui). All of them carry out their activities around five major thematic fields: Biotechnology and Biomedicine, Animal Production and Health and Food Processing and Safety, Experimental and Technological Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities and Environmental Science and Technology.

The technological transfer and scientific and technical services of the UAB Research Park are aimed both at researchers of the research centres and institutes of the UAB, CSIC and IRTA, and all the other centres and institutes that make up the UAB Research Park, as well as the University’s own Research Groups. Companies located within the area of the Park and those involved in the University’s research work, such as spin-off and start-up companies, can also benefit from these services.
